Hello Warrior Band family,

It was a great week for the Martin Band program...we had an incredible showing at 9-12 All-City placing 69 out of 79 students who auditioned!  In addition, we had 13 of the 18 first chairs and 5 out of the 6 freshman who made the band are Warriors!  The staff couldn't be more proud of the kids and all their hard work to make All-City a success!

This week has 9th grade auditions, rehearsals, and a football game.  Here's the details...

Rehearsal schedule at-a-glance

Tuesday and Wednesday - Orchestra rehearsals 3-5pm (Symphonic) or 3-4:30pm (Philharmonic)
Thursday - Marching rehearsal 3:15pm-4:00pm

9th Grade All-City

For those of you who are auditioning, be ready to sign in at your room by 4:45pm.  If you signed up to be a helper, you will be contacted later today to you to let you know you are needed.  Uniform for helpers will be summer polo and jeans.  Helpers will be fed after the audition is over which should be VERY quick since there are much less students who are auditioning.

Mac's at Martin update

A word from our Booster Board...if your section basket lead parent has asked for a donation, that needs to get to them by 11/23.  Tickets money is due on November 18th...this is important because we need to let Mac's know how much food we need to serve.  Make sure that your money is in an envelope with your student's name on it (the envelope that the tickets were in works just fine) and place it in the booster mailbox next to the band office.

The jazz band is looking forward to the performance...they have really stepped up their game this year and we cannot wait to show you what we got!

What's that?  Ah--PLAYOFFS?  Don't talk about -- Playoffs?  You kidding me?  PLAYOFFS?

The Warrior football team rolled over Midland which means we have another week!  On Friday, we will be playing the Amarillo High Sandies in Wichita Falls.  At the writing of this email, we do not know the type of buses or departure time.  If last year was any indication, we will have charters and probably leave between 2:30pm-3:00pm.  The kickoff is 7pm which is 30 minutes earlier than our normal start time.  Students are REQUIRED to go on this trip with the exception of those who are going out of town for the holiday week.  When more details (departure, bus type, etc) become available, I will email out again.

In addition, we will most likely beat Amarillo and go on further.  Our opponent will be the winner of the Allen/DeSoto game (two teams that we beat earlier in the season...).  That game could be played Friday or Saturday...when I find out the details I will let everyone know.

Thanksgiving week - A request

For the first time, AISD is giving the entire week of Thanksgiving off.  While this affords the opportunity for families to take time away to recharge and spend time together, it creates issues for the performance of the band program.  Due to facility needs, our concert has to be the week after our week off.  The directors IMPLORE that the students take their instruments home over the break and play at least 20 minutes to keep their chops up.  We want to have a great concert on Thursday but if students don't play their instruments for 9 straight days we are going to have serious problems the following Monday.  Parents, please help us out!

That's all for now.  Let's have a great week Warriors!
